Texas Hill Country

$250.00

Cost: $250 per session. $100 deposit required.

Location will be given upon reservation. Typically, we will meet no more than a 1hr and 30min drive from San Antonio, Tx.

Each session will include 2-3 hours minimum, and the location will be based off your target species.

The Texas Hill Country is a unique region characterized by rolling hills, limestone outcrops, and clear-flowing rivers, nestled in central Texas. It’s known for its rich biodiversity, blending elements of both eastern and western ecosystems. The area’s native habitat includes a mix of hardwood forests, open grasslands, and oak savannas, all shaped by the region’s varying elevations, karst topography, and occasional wildfires. The diverse landscapes provide a variety of habitats for wildlife, including oak woodlands, riparian areas, and dry scrublands, making it a prime location for birdwatching.

In this region, you’ll find a fascinating array of songbirds, such as the Painted Bunting, Blue Grosbeak and the endangered Golden-Cheeked Warbler, which thrives in the juniper-oak woodlands. The blend of native grasses, wildflowers, and tall trees also supports species like the Indigo bunting, Field Sparrows, and many more. Spring and fall migrations bring even more avian diversity, making the Texas Hill Country an exceptional place for bird photography and an ideal spot for capturing both resident and migratory songbirds.

This rich, natural backdrop provides an opportunity for participants to explore the interplay of light, landscape, and avian life while honing their bird photography skills.

Species likely to see:

  • Golden-Cheeked Warbler

  • Northern Parula

  • Yellow-Throated Warbler

  • Black-And-White Warbler

  • Easter Wood Peewee

  • Vermillion Flycatcher

  • Painted Bunting

  • Blue Grosbeak

  • Rufous-Crowned Sparrow

  • Field Sparrow

  • Summer Tanager

  • Scott’s Oriole

Sessions must be scheduled at least 1 week in advance.

This photo tour is simply one of a kind. There is no other tour, or workshop, in Texas that can provide you with the close up views, in a truly unique environment that I am able to give you. Over the years, through countless outings, I have acquired the expertise and ability to locate every bird listed above, on their breeding grounds, in their natural habitat. There is no one else out there offering this type of tour, for such an affordable cost. You will receive views of these birds within 6-12 feet.

I encourage you to bring the following items for our outing:

  • Water

  • Hiking Boots

  • Long Pants

  • Bug Spray

  • Hat/Hoodie/Jacket

  • Layered Clothing

  • Monopod

  • Extra SD/CF Express Cards

  • A lens with at lease 300-600mm range

Please Read: Due to the sensitivity of some of the species listed, we will spend minimal, but efficient time with these birds. My goal is to get you the best photos possible while still protecting the species and its native habitat. If I notice any “out of ordinary” behavior being displayed by the bird, we will be ending the time spent with that bird immediately and moving to the next location.
